The first time we saw the giant billboard sign at the corner of Thorncliffe and Montrose, advertising the new subdivision plans, we were hoping that for an honest intention of creating a real community that was properly integrated into the natural heritage of the area.
It showed a happy family in front of a beautiful natural forest background.
It’s now clear, by the latest plans and notice of applications submitted for approvals to the City, that the slogan ‘Welcome to Nature’ on the Montrose Village development, doesn’t really leave much of that Nature there.
The development slated for the area is planning to squeeze out pretty much every bit of that natural heritage. All the reforested bedrock, with it’s first generation birch, pine, spruce trees, and succession oaks, and maples, Labrador rhododendrons, blueberry bushes, moss covered outcrops, and all it’s forest dwelling creatures, all slated for roads and lots.
Hopefully some perspectives can shift a bit and plans can be adapted to the new reality of where we need to be, as subdivision building society.
We are hoping that this can be done better and, that it still can be a community development worthy of slogan like ‘Welcome to Nature’.
Let us know how we can help.
